The choice to use D2 steel on the Companion Model was not a difficult one, but we did discuss our options (and there were many!). We felt D2 was a good choice due to its terrific edge holding ability. Of course, its all in the heat treat.

We have both had very positive experiences with it in our "user grade" knives. We are going to offer some coating options for those who are concerned about corrosion, esp. around salt water. This air-hardening tool steel (with 12% chromium) is just below the threshold to call it a "stainless" steel.

Scales are 1/4" thick each, giving the grip a thickness of 5/8".
Unique interchangeable handle/scales allow you to swap colors and/or material types for your knife.

DKC has two options available;

Handle Hardware Replacement

Why Slot and not Hex?
Most people we know (sportsman, fisherman, farmers, military, law enforcement) either carry a multi-tool, Swiss Army knife, or something with a flat screwdriver on it. We didn't want someone to have to go find that "special tool" for replacing their grips.

Why not blackened?
Ever try finding blackened stuff in the dark, or in the leaves, or anywhere else for that matter?

Used to secure the scales/handles to the Tang.
